Emotional & Behavioral Problems

Emotional and behavioural changes can reflect a fundamental change in personality for some ABI survivors while for others they may represent an exaggeration of a previous personality. The changes that occur reflect a combination of physical damage to the emotional control centres of the brain and the psychological reaction to the injury and its effects.

How an individual copes emotionally will depend to a large extent on their previous personality, level of insight and the amount of family and professional support made available to them. Again, it is important to remember that different people will experience different levels of changes.
